Project Overview

Project Planning

The client planned to replace the existing flooring with a full-coverage 柔道垫(Tatami) system. The objective was to create a more structured and consistent training surface, while also maintaining a clean and professional appearance suitable for both students and instructors.

In addition to functionality, the client also considered how the new flooring would visually integrate with the overall dojo environment.

Product Selection & Layout Design

We provided a range of surface textures and color options for the client to review. Based on these references, the client selected standard size 2m × 1m judo mats in a blue and black combination, a widely used configuration in martial arts training spaces.

For the layout, blue mats were installed in the central training area, forming the primary activity zone, while black mats were placed around the perimeter. This approach helps clearly define the training area, improves spatial awareness, and creates a more organized layout for different types of training.

At the same time, the dojo's existing floor base and wall colors are predominantly black. By using black mats along the outer edges, the flooring blends naturally with the surrounding environment, creating a cohesive and visually unified space without abrupt color transitions.

Installation

After receiving the mats, the client carried out the installation within their dojo. Thanks to the standardized 2m × 1m dimensions, the installation process was straightforward and efficient, allowing for accurate alignment and consistent spacing.

Once completed, the mats formed a flat, stable, and continuous surface. The tight placement between mats ensured a clean finish and supported reliable performance during daily training.

Final Outcome

Following installation, the client shared photos of students actively training on the new surface. From these images, the blue central area stands out clearly as the main training zone, while the black perimeter frames the space and connects visually with the dojo's existing interior.

The overall result is a training environment that appears clean, structured, and well-balanced. The combination of functional layout and coordinated color design contributes to a more organized and professional dojo setting.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates how a standard 2m × 1m judo mat system can be effectively applied to upgrade an existing training space. Through a straightforward selection and layout approach, the client achieved both functional improvement and visual consistency.

The use of a blue center and black perimeter configuration highlights how color planning can support spatial organization while maintaining harmony with the surrounding environment.
